Games are a great way to increase practice and fun. Here are a few I learned along the way. Many games were taken from the Novel "Daddy Caddy Off The Bag" by Rick Heard.
Around the World Put six balls in a circle 3' from the hole. Start with one ball. Put that ball into the hole. The amount of strokes you used is your score. Keep a running total until you finish all 6 balls.
Chipping Circles Place a 3 and 6 foot ring around a hole (eyeline makes good ones). Set up 3 balls from the fringe 3 balls from 3 yards off the green and 3 balls from 5 yards. Scoring is 1 point for on the green, 2 points for inside the 6' ring, 3 points for inside the 3' ring and 5 points for in the hole.
Golf Horse This is played like the basketball game horse except you spell the word golf. This is a good one to play with foam balls in the back yard. Shots just need some imagination like between the chains of the swing set, over a chair, into a bucket etc.
Wham Box This one is easy. Take a box put it in front of you and try to hit holes in it until it falls apart.
Last one standing Tie a 3' string between 2 tees and place them in the putting green. For large groups, 2 go at a time. The one who is furthest away is eliminated. Keep going until there is only one person left. When doing this with 2 people, the person closest to the string gets a point. The first person to 10 wins.
Threes Each player takes three balls and puts them from a designated spot to a designated hole on the putting green. If The ball is holed in one put, the person earns a credit they could use to pay for a 3 put. If the ball was holed in 2 puts, no problem. If it was holed in 3 and the player had no credits, they have to do 4 push ups.
Scrambled Eggs Players take turns choosing a start location around the green. Each player would hit 3 balls from that spot. The other player had choose which ball you would play out and the other 2 are picked up. You had one more hit to get it in the hole. If you did, you earned a point. First one to 3 wins.
Scorecard Race Choose a target everyone in your group can reach. Imagine a circle 10 yards in every direction. Take a scorecard and place everyone's name on it. Take turns hitting balls to the target. If it goes inside the imaginary circle, you place an x in the box where the hole 1 score would go. First one to 9 wins.
